Almost every year, Charles Nyakurwa has been organising a walkathon. This event, which has been fittingly dubbed the ‘deaf walk’ is meant to raise awareness on the challenges that the deaf encounter on daily basis. By exposing these trials and tribulations, the idea is therefore to wipe off stigma associated with the deaf and the disabled in our society.

In a befitting send off to every year’s DHW`s 200km Silent DisAbility walk, the owners of the Foodbarn Restaurant has availed his whole restaurant to DHW so that they host a silent dinner/meal prior to the walk. This will be in Noordhoek on the 13th of September dinner time arrival is 6:30pm. The silent meal, which was inaugurated in 2013, is getting bigger and better as signified by this gesture by Foodbarn co-owers Pete and Franck of releasing the whole restaurant space to accommodate this honourable cause. Front of House manager Debbie Bennetts is and has been the driving force in many of the strategic planning of the Silent Meal encounter. She has successfully done a similar send-off dinner for The St Luke`s Hospice during their fundraising walk. Whilst this event will serve partly as fundraising for DHW’s activities, it is also an opportunity for networking and linking with strategic partners in social entrepreneurship.
